Continental Grand Prix 5000 Clincher Tire, 23mm, Black Chili

The all-new Grand Prix 5000 Tire from Continental, a worthy successor to its Grand Prix 4000 S II, has stood atop its road clincher tire range for a dozen or so years and has been a favorite among cyclists worldwide. The GP4000 was universally loved because it was truly a competition-worthy tire in terms of weight, grip, and rolling resistance, but unlike typical racing rubber, the tire was actually durable enough to fend off debris, allowing for daily training, while also lasting long enough to rack up significant mileage before the threads began to show.

Conti's continued use of Black Chili, a critical component of the tire's rubber compound, is what defines the tire's grip, rolling resistance, and longevity. Typically, altering one factor affects the others, but Black Chili's complex compound technology, exclusive to Conti's Korbach, Germany plant, overcomes this challenge. By using special synthetic rubbers along with proven natural rubber, and adding super-tiny carbon black particles optimized in shape and surface properties, the compound enables greater conformity to variable road surfaces, improving grip in demanding situations, such as high-speed cornering, while also reducing rolling resistance.

The tiny size of the Black Chili particles allows more of them to fit into the tire's contact patch, reducing wear and increasing longevity. This unique compound technology sets the Grand Prix 5000 apart, making it a worthy successor to the beloved GP4000 S II.
